We’ve been delivering Community Reporting sessions as part of the Youth 4 Youth project. We’ve been exploring the topic of mainstream education and early school leaving with young people in alternative education provision. Our participants have had their own challenges studying in the mainstream school system and they shared some of their thoughts using basic media including photography, animation and film.
This was a difficult topic for some of the young people to talk about so we kept the workshops fun and light hearted by discussing topics such as:
- Describe school in one sentence
- What would your ‘dream school’ look like?
- What are the best and worst subjects/lessons in school and why?
We used these topics and conversations to create some small pieces of media which you can see here.
One young man decided to use his camera and interview skills to interview a key worker at an alternative education provision about her job and why she chooses to work outside of mainstream education.
